“Reflecting on the past can equip us to live in the present and provide wisdom for the future.”
Today we pause to reflect on the Battle of the Somme one hundred years on.
In his contribution to 100 days for 100 years: Our Story of Healing, Honour & Hope, Cllr John Kyle considered the significance of the Somme for the foundation narrative of Northern Ireland and calls us to be peace-makers.
Looking to a hope-filled future, he suggests that,
"Whatever our views on the morality of the Great War, we have a calling to act today as peacemakers. Peacemaking involves creating a society free from triumphalism and where all are treated with dignity and respect."
Today we remember.
Today we pray for healing, honour and hope in our lives and our land.
